In this talk, you will hear about Breaking the Silence, an educational program for middle and high school students, as well as true life stories from our work in the field and the activities and discussion topics used to educate students about mental illness and suicide awareness.

Speakers will be:

Michelle Herling, Executive Director and Founder of Breaking the Silence/New Mexico.  Michele’s devotion to bringing heartfelt awareness and understanding of mental illness developed out of her personal journey with a family member who has a mental illness.

Kristi Goldade, Central New Mexico Coordinator at Breaking the Silence/New Mexico.  Kristi has a master’s degree in Literary Reportage from NYU and has studied English and Social Justice  at the University of Minnesota.  She co-founded a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool, edited a youth publication called KidSpirit and mentored KUNM’s Generation Justice.   She believes in the power of education to generate compassion for each other and for ourselves.

Open to the public and is free of charge.
